A trifle?

"Squishy, unidentifiable things?" Aren't you thinking of head cheese?

I'd say they're either looking out on someplace in Arizona or one of those exotic locales from Star Wars.

The Stunt Waffles look great!

Thanks! Good guesses, but the site is neither Arizona nor Star Wars. And Eldritch is obviously talking about Trifle made with panettone instead of plain sponge cake...   :-)

Trifle alla Inglese (as I call my invention) may indeed have squishy things innit, but they're all readily identifiable (raisins or citron).
Perhaps he's referring to Pan-dimensional Trifle? I'd stay away from that stuff...

Ah, you are quick and clever, but I'm looking for a specific location! (Yes, this is challenging, but I'm betting that Box of Virtual Doughnuts that someone will be able to identify it!)

Good guess! Very specific. But no! ;-)

Oh. It's Victoria Crater.

Man, they all look the same to me. ;-)

Virtual Box of DoughnutsYes! Bravo, and Well Done!

I know, they do all look alike. But it is indeed Victoria Crater, on Mars. For correctly identifying the location, you've won a well-earned Box of Virtual Doughnuts! Mmmmm, Enjoy!

Hellas Planitia?

That's my best guess so I'm going with it.

We had trifle for Brayden's birthday and it was rife with unidentifiable squishy bits. (And I chose rife specifically over replete as some of the bits were a little unnerving.)

Another good guess, but no!

You can point out to him how Trifle with Squishy Bits is a metaphor for Life. That's just the sort of Educational Perspective that a Young Person needs. ;-)

the landscape reminded me of Dune.

Then I saw what appeared to be nomads trecking across the horizon and thought, maybe it was a place more local, like the sahara, or gobi desert.

But I don't know what they look like off the top of my head.

sigh

Virtual Box of DoughnutsWell done! Yes, two small figures move along the horizon, and they are indeed today's Easter Egg! For spotting it, and pointing it out here, you've won one of today's delicious Boxes of Virtual Doughnuts! Congratulations!

What are they exactly, you ask? I don't know. But perhaps Spirit or Opportunity will cross paths with those Martian Nomads, and we'll see...

Speedy Nomads

Me thinks the nomads move with a mighty speed!
They must not be on foot, or tentacle, or . . .
I thought that having any kind of external transport, particularly mechanically propelled ones, was considered cheating by nomads the multiverse over.

Good point. There's no telling how things are done differently on other worlds, though... ;-)

It's on Mars. I can't remember the specific name of the crater, but it's a view of that particular feature from the rim by the Mars Spirit Rover.

Damn, I just checked this out. I would have guessed Mars in a heartbeat, but not sure if I would have come up with Victoria Crater.

I just watched Roving Mars a couple of weeks ago on the IMAX screen and it was fascinating.
